Motion Simulation Technology
The TTAA has offered Defensive Driving courses since 1970 — making us the first organisation to bring this training to T&T. Today, we've evolved that programme with cutting-edge motion simulation technology recognised internationally by the FIA.
Our professional driving simulator replicates emergency stops, wet roads, overtaking hazards, and night driving — all in a completely safe, off-road environment.
Each simulation session is complemented by structured classroom presentations covering defensive driving principles, hazard perception, and advanced road safety techniques.
Whether you've just received your licence or have decades of driving experience, our programme is designed to challenge and sharpen skills at every level.
Classes run multiple times each month at our Port of Spain office. Group and corporate bookings are available — contact us to schedule for your organisation.
The TTAA has been first at every critical milestone in T&T's motoring and road safety history. Here is the story of a century-old commitment to excellence.
The TTAA is established as a non-profit motoring organisation and immediately becomes the first to introduce a roadside assistance wrecking programme to Trinidad & Tobago — setting the template for motorist support in the Caribbean region.
The TTAA becomes the first organisation to introduce and promote the use of traffic lights as part of a structured traffic management system in Trinidad — a foundational leap forward in organising road safety across the island.
Pioneering member protection: the TTAA becomes the first to introduce a Legal Expenses Manslaughter Benefit for its members — providing legal coverage for motorists involved in fatal traffic incidents, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the Caribbean. (Currently not available).
The TTAA becomes the first to partner with the Ministry of Transport – Licensing Division to register and approve all vehicles imported into T&T — establishing critical roadworthiness standards that protect all road users across the country.
A watershed moment: the TTAA becomes the first organisation to introduce, host and offer Defensive Driving classes to Trinidad & Tobago. Over 50 years later, this programme continues to evolve — now featuring world-class motion simulation technology and international FIA recognition.
The TTAA becomes the first and only organisation authorised to issue International Driver Permits to T&T nationals and CARICOM citizens — enabling legal driving in over 150 countries worldwide. This exclusive authority remains with the TTAA to this day.
The TTAA achieves its most prestigious national honour: becoming the first and only automobile association ever awarded the Medal of Merit Gold for Road Safety by the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. This national award recognises outstanding contributions to road safety and public service.
The TTAA's Motion Simulated Defensive Driving Programme — "Stop the Carnage" — is featured by the FIA in the Innovation Challenge 2024 (Region III) as one of the leading road safety innovations across the Americas and Caribbean, cementing the TTAA's reputation as a world-class driver training institution.
Under President Selwyn Persad, the TTAA continues advancing T&T's motoring interests through cutting-edge driver training, active FIA participation, international advocacy, and community engagement. The "On the Hunt" road rally series brings drivers and communities together in T&T's spirit of adventure and road safety awareness.
The International Driver Permit (IDP) is an official document that translates your T&T driver's licence into 12 international languages, allowing you to legally drive in over 150 countries worldwide. The TTAA has been the sole authorised IDP issuer in Trinidad & Tobago since 1977.
An IDP is not a replacement for your national licence — it must be carried alongside it. Together, they give you the legal right to drive in the majority of countries around the globe.

Valid T&T driver's licence, a recent passport-sized photo, and a valid passport or national ID.
